Writing For Multimedia And The Web - Reflection Week 8

Another week, trudged. I don't know why but this week, I feel particularly lethargic. Perhaps it was still just yesterday I was at home for Raya, and today I'm back in the class for another half semester of study. Getting out of bed to go to class was a tough ordeal in itself; a week of Raya has taken its toll it seems. My spirit was willing but my flesh was weak. Anyway, I suppose it's not too late to wish Selamat Hari Raya to all!

Anyway, regarding this week's class, we were taught on the styles of Commercial websites. There were different approaches in building and presenting a commercial site, with each style catering to the creators purpose and intent. Then we were asked to scour the web for good and bad websites. I had a pretty clear idea on how to get the good websites, since basically all you need to do was look for prominent and popular websites. They're bound to be good. Still, my choices don't really reflect what I've just said since pretty much everybody had the same mindset, so you have to be more obscure in in finding the websites. i found these ones:

http://www.joho.my/

http://craftsmanave.com/

http://optimo.com/

My main criteria for good websites is the graphical design and philosophy. I prefer simplistic and on-the-point web design. There is bad simplistic and good simplistic however. Being simplistic is no excuse for being drab and boring, instead the websites I choose are eye-catching without having to do much. my favorite has to be Optimo hats, because the homepage is just, wow!

My bad websites were:

http://art.yale.edu/

http://www.sixtiespress.co.uk/

http://www.lingscars.com/

Though now that I think about it, i'm pretty sure these websites were bad intentionally... or perhaps I'm not cultured enough to see how it is beautiful design. You know like how a messy blob of a painting is seen as a masterpiece in the eyes of fancy, high-art aficionados. Perhaps for them, if we see it as a bad website, than they have won. That was their intention the whole time I mean.
